What about…

// By gkschoenberg // March 22nd, 2009 // Virtual Producer "Notes"

As mentioned, you’re looking for different hooks/ideas for the show. As we all know, Donovan prefers luxury in his travel, while Steve will go all out to avoid anything luxurious.  What about having Donovan plan Steve’s travel and Steve plan Donovan’s travel?  I don’t think this would work for every episode as Donovan might die, and Steve might get arrested for jumping off of the roof of 5-star hotels, but it would provide an interesting twist.

Another idea is to have the two of you try to convince a different guest each week that your way is better.  It can be location specific, so you each have a week or two to explore this episodes location and prepare your plan.  Then you have one week or so to travel with your guest and show them why this location is better suited to your travel method.

Good luck with the show!

    Dude, I think you have latched onto an idea that runs absolutely in line with what Donovan and I (or at least, I) have been hoping would drive the show. a) designing each other’s travels would make us each spend a lot of time concentrating on the other person’s type of travel–I would like to spend more time climbing than checking out fancy hotels for Dono. However, idea b) is right on the money. We want to encourage people to travel. We wanted to have some form of an appropriate philanthropic component (if we could manage it). The philanthropic component would be hard as in building schools or houses or saving entire populations because of a few things: time, money, and nobody likes anybody (even charities) coming into their community to tell them how to better run things / undercut the economy by stuffing in surplus free stuff. Yet, bringing people traveling is philanthropic and downright cool. It gives an outside, objective judge. We could bring people from home, and people from abroad. Full school classes, from Canada or Senegal. I love this idea. It would drive the show well. Thanks a tonne, Geoff. Keep the ideas rolling, and helping us refine this one. We will let you know how it flies after our next meeting with the producers.
